History of Indian Council of Chemists


e Indian Council of Chemists (ICC) was founded at Agra in the year 1981 (19th September, 1981) with a view to

(i)advance and promote the cause of chemical research and education in the Country

(ii) to publish research Journals, Proceedings, Transactions and other material of standared quality and topical interest.

(iii) to organize Conference, Seminar, symposia, discussions, special lectures, exhibitions and such other activities as may be considered desirable and necessary for promoting better understanding of chemical research and its applications for the economic, social and industrial programmes

(iv) to strive for strengthening national co-operation and contact amongst the scientists of the Country and

(v) to work in association with National and International Scientists working in the field of Chemistry and to co-operate with other organizations having similar objectives.

The Council started with a membership of merely forty fellows in 1981. However, over the years it has grown in strength and popularity and at present there are about 1100 Life fellows and 500 annual fellows. These include Scientists, teachers and research scholars from various colleges, universities, IITs and other academic institutions and scientific organizations from all over the country.
